This SACD is part of a project by the Polish Radio National Symphony Orchestra that was known as ‘The Sacred Triptych’. The project celebrated the 70th birthdays of the three Polish composers: Krzysztof Penderecki’s "Credo", Henryk Mikolaj Górecki’s Symphony No. 3 "Symphony of Sorrowful Songs" and Wojciech Kilar’s "Missa pro pace". All three concerts were filmed and released on multichannel SACD and DVD (Dolby Digital 5.1). The DVD’s also contain interviews with their respected composers talking about their work. The Gorecki concert also had a limited released on Blu-ray with a 24/192 stereo and 24/96 surround tracks.

Like Gorecki, this live concert is conducted by Mr Penderecki himself.

Forgive my simple description but the music is beautiful and very dramatic in parts – superb soloists, sublime choir and fantastic orchestra. It was filmed in the Dominican Church of St Jacek, Warsaw in what I suppose you could call a naturally surround experience – (from the DVD) the audience face the orchestra, soloists and choir but behind them high above is the organ pit where some of the brass section is also situated. I can only imagine it must have been stunning to be present.

Sonically it is stunning, like the other 2 SACDs in the Triptych. Definately 5 stars all round.

Sadly these SACD and there respective DVDs (covers are the same) are very difficult to obtain. I only just obtained this SACD after 6 years of searching.
Highly recommended SACD and if you can get the DVD, do so.
