The blurb at Crotchet states,

"...concertos 3 and 4 were recorded very quickly - often in one take!"

"often"? I would think two would be the maximum here, which, of course, would make it "always".

Kidding aside, this is a release I look forward to listening to.

Keep 'em coming, Bissie.

It's a Linn production.

Thanks, Peter, corrective action has been taken.

I've had a glimpse of what it sounds like at the Linn site - Pizarro plays a Blüthner, which has a 4th string per note in the upper range and it sounds absolutely wonderful; (still hope the day will come that Linn masters in DSD). On top of all that the price is a steal at less than £11 for double SACD set. Can't wait till April ends.

Absolute corker and surefire winner. Surely the other two will follow soon? My order is in!

You don't mean the Aliquot strings? That's also an interesting construction. I played one of those smaller Bluthners and was very taken with it!

That's exactly what I mean by the un-struck 4th string. BTW this tone is also superbly captured at the Chopin/Pizarro works also released by Linn.

For the benefit of other readers I have copied an excerpt from Wiki:

" As currently implemented, the Blüthner aliquot stringing system uses a fourth aliquot string in each note of the top three octaves. This string is raised slightly with respect to the other three strings, so that it is not struck by the hammer. Whenever the hammer strikes the three non-aliquot strings, the aliquot string vibrates sympathetically, adding to the richness of the tone. This same string resonance effect occurs, on a more limited scale, when other notes on the piano are played that are harmonically related to the pitch of an aliquot string "

Almost a year on and still no word of the set being completed. Does anybody have enough contact with Linn to find out when we can expect Nos 1 & 2?

My understanding was that the intention was to only record a stand-alone 3 & 4 (5 was added due to sessions going so well); I will check though.

I've been in touch with Linn today who confirm that they will record Concerto's 1 & 2 in the summer for release in 2011. Should be worth waiting for.
