Osmo Vänskä's Beethoven Symphony cycle with Minnesota Orchestra was outstanding: Vänskä brings new energy and punch accents of these famous works. Now, this awesome team continues their Beethoven project with composer's piano concertos. This SACD contains Fourth and Five Piano Concertos. The Fourth Piano Concerto begins piano's quiet short solo and Sudbin plays it very beautifully. I think that this is the best performance of this work. The dramatic second movement is performed very well: muted strings and piano's una corda solos are very effective. And the virtuosity finale is very stunning. Minnesota Orchestra plays powerfully, but still the music breaths. BIS label's recording is natural. Exciting performance. The famous Fifth Piano Concerto (subtitles "Emperor") is also performed magnificent: it is even better than Fourth Concerto. Piano's difficult solos in the work's begin is played breathtaking: Sudbin's virtuosity is hair-raising. The beautiful second movement (which used in the famous movie "king's speech"), is very beautiful, and orchestra and soloist plays it very good. The dancing finale is also very good - it is much better than Olli Mustonen's recording with Tapiola Sinfonietta (Ondine). By the way, excellent Beethoven recording of this remarkable team. They do it again. Don't hesitate, buy this!
