Dave Brubeck Quartet: Time Out        (4 of 10 found this review helpful)
  August 2, 2012

This is not a review but a response - I agree wholeheartedly. Of note I **do** think Analogue Productions improved considerably on the Getz/Gilberto title and they said they worked from a different master there as well. THEIR WEBSITE CONFIRMS THAT THE 2 CHANNEL MIX is REMASTERED but the ... more
The Moody Blues: In Search of the Lost Chord        (0 of 1 found this review helpful)
  March 31, 2012

Something weird with this SACD - I will run some tests and see what is going on if I can - the length of the data (read from PS3) is very short compared to all the other Moody Blues titles. If I find out anything I'll let you know It sounds OK and does register as an SACD but I'll try to get some ... more
Sam Cooke: Portrait of a Legend 1951-1964        (2 of 2 found this review helpful)

Stellar collection from possibly the greatest male vocalist ever. What more is there to say? Quality is excellent as well. One of my favourite SACD titles period. Remastering is phenomenal. I had an old 80s Sam Cooke Man and His Music collection which literally sounds like AM radio - one of my worst ... more
Joe Weed: The Vultures        (2 of 3 found this review helpful)

Sounds great....less filling.... This is folksy elevator music replaying of 60s and surf classics. The sonics are very good, but unless you likely quirky musicianship, look elsewhere.
The Police: Zenyatta Mondatta        (3 of 3 found this review helpful)

I think this is the Police's best album. Certainly it features one of the greatest album sides of all time. Contrary to some of the other reviews, I think that the sonically the SACD adds a little to the CD release. Some of the percussion and background effects (eg During De Doo Doo Doo 'when their ... more

You're correct about that one and it's dishonest of hdtracks imho. Furthermore, if you're going to upsample in the pcm domain, wouldn't it be better to do it on a direct multiple like 88.2 or 176.4? I think the industry is either confused or doing this nonsense deliberately ... more

I'm confused. If this is SACD (DSD) why source it from PCM 24/96 masters? Fragile and Magnification available on DVDA. Others are appearing from analog masters on SACD from the USA (Audio Fidelity) And using Korg AudioGate to convert to DSD? Why not Weiss or other software? AudioGate is a freeware tool: is it any good for pro use? Yes 90125 is ... more

First I'll just quickly say I thought it was a little harsh when I posted a 'reply' instead of a review on the page for this title and only 2/7 said it was useful. I did confirm that the multichannel mix is the same as the Sony one, so if that's what you're after and you own the old one, there's not point If you never got this on SACD before it ... more
