If you like your Bach transformed into elevator muzac, then this is the disc for you. I find it bland and boring, and ever so dull. Bach's music famously transcribes well to almost anything … but alas not here. Here it seems heavy, banal and trifling … lacking its usual complexity and any subtlety ... more

This must be one of the worst sounding SACDs I have had the misfortune of purchasing: the sound is completely 'digital' - harsh and grainy. Awful. And if the sonics are dubious, I am not sure why anyone would want to specially purchase this as a SACD. What can be its raison d'être? It doesn't seem ... more

This is unquestionably the finest performance of Mozart's requiem I have yet heard on SACD .... Karajan's performance on SACD is scarred by a woeful performance by the choir. Translating the recording info blurb: "Recorded in August 1990, at the Great Hall of the Arsenal in Metz, by Michael Bernstein and Charlotte Gilart of Kéranflèc'h." If it is a 1990 recording, it presumably was a standard 44.1 kHz 16bit or similar CD resolution recording, so alas this is just a CD wrapped in SACD paper ... no benefit in moving ... more

Thanks for the translation. Much better than google :) I too find the first disc to be rather teeth gnashing ... 3 or 4 tracks and I exceed my tolerance levels and have to stop it. Fourth disc does not cause me such problems. > Manche50 seems to share my estimation of the performance, yet inexplicably, he awards the set only a single star. ... more
